With so many children around the world, especially in Canada and the United States being diagnosed with Autism, Aspergers and other Special Needs, I have noticed there is a severe gap in the approach of working with this precious population of children and young people.
Music and Art Work should be at the top of the list in working with this population.
I have over 40 years experience working with all types of children through Music and Music Therapy coupled often with Art Work. I have had great success working with children as young as 4 years old through teenagers.
I recently completed my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling which offers me a huge broad base of training. I am very qualified to work with families, children in the areas of cognition, Music, Music Therapy. I have a passion for all children; I know that every Child deserves to have a Music Education. I have a BS in Music Education.
In working with some children diagnosed with Autism and Aspergers, often times they are either speech delayed or lack the ability to communicate verbally or in writing. Being able to find other vehicles to offer a child to enable them to express their feelings and emotions...MUSIC coupled with ART WORK are remarkable tools...Children enjoy exploring new and creative ways to share their feelings.
I would consider it a privilege to speak with you and explore what you have observed in your child. Do they like to sing? Do they like to Dance when they hear Music? Do they feel the beat of the Music? Do you have any Musical Instruments in your home such as a Keyboard, Piano, Guitar, Drums?
